The Junior Rifle Program for shooters age 12 to 80 (or older) began on Wednesday, October 3 at 7:00 pm. They shoot till 9:00 p.m. because this is a school night for the juniors. There are two parts to the program - an introductory course where participants learn rifle safety and shooting techniques including handling, maintenance, aiming, and shooting. This is a 4-week course and ended October 24. The cost for this portion of the program is $40 per shooter and includes use of the rifle, all ammunition, and the loan of eye and ear protection. The second part of the program is the practice session. Starting at the end of the introductory course, shooters can continue to improve their shooting skills in these practice sessions which are held every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. through the end of March. The cost for the practice session is $45 and again includes the rifle, all ammunition, and the loan of eye and ear protection. The juniors are encouraged to bring their homework for times when they will be waiting to get on the range. If you are interested in this program, please contact Jim Warden at 412-480-2212 or Ray Noakes at 724-348-5633.
The Club’s Junior Shotgun program will be offered again next year in June.
The Club holds open trap shooting on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. These shooting sessions are open to the public. The cost for a 25-bird line of trap is now $5.00. Shooters can bring their own shotgun shells (shot no larger than 7 1/2) or they can buy shotgun shells at $8.00 a box at the range. For questions on the Club’s open trap shooting, please call Joe Montuoro at 412-833-0897.
The cost for the 20-week season is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Persons that can't commit to the entire 20-week period can pay as they go, $4 per night for members and $5 per night for non-members. You will need your favorite firearm, 50 rounds of ammunition - .22 or center fire with a velocity under 1200 fps, and eye and ear protection. The shoot does have a timed and rapid fire segment so a semi-automatic pistol is recommended; however, those with revolvers and speed loaders will have time to complete the lines.
