The Junior Rifle Program for shooters age 12 to 80 (or older) began on Wednesday, October 3 at 7:00 pm. They shoot till 9:00 p.m. because this is a school night for the juniors. There are two parts to the program - an introductory course where participants learn rifle safety and shooting techniques including handling, maintenance, aiming, and shooting. This is a 4-week course and ended October 24. The cost for this portion of the program is $40 per shooter and includes use of the rifle, all ammunition, and the loan of eye and ear protection. The second part of the program is the practice session. Starting at the end of the introductory course, shooters can continue to improve their shooting skills in these practice sessions which are held every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. through the end of March. The cost for the practice session is $45 and again includes the rifle, all ammunition, and the loan of eye and ear protection. The juniors are encouraged to bring their homework for times when they will be waiting to get on the range. If you are interested in this program, please contact Jim Warden at 412-480-2212 or Ray Noakes at 724-348-5633.

CMP Shoot Alternate

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Hi-Power Shoot has been discontinued, and we are working on an AR-15 Shoot to replace the CMP Shoot. If you are interested in participating in this shoot or would like to get involved in helping run the program, please contact Jason Perry at We need to determine member’s interest in this shoot if we are to move forward with it.

Recreational Pistol League:

The cost for the 20-week season is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Persons that can't commit to the entire 20-week period can pay as they go, $4 per night for members and $5 per night for non-members. You will need your favorite firearm, 50 rounds of ammunition - .22 or center fire with a velocity under 1200 fps, and eye and ear protection. The shoot does have a timed and rapid fire segment so a semi-automatic pistol is recommended; however, those with revolvers and speed loaders will have time to complete the lines. To sign up for the Monday Night League, please contact Steve Boehm at Carrick Sportsmen Club.

Metropolitan Pistol League:

The MPRL team shoots on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. and is currently shooting indoors. Their 14-week outdoor season has finished; they finished the outdoor season in 3rd place out of 6 in .22 and 4th place out of 5 in center fire. Tom Plappert was High Sharpshooter in .22 and Reno Baum was High Marksman in .22. They are practicing for their indoor season. Their indoor season will begin the week of January 13 and run for 14 weeks. They are now practicing on the indoor range. The team competes against teams from other clubs in the area, with each team shooting at their home club; scores are submitted to, and tallied by, the league scorekeeper. The team invites anyone who is interested to come out and give it a try. You can not hurt the team as only the best 4 sets of scores are submitted for the competition, but you will be able to shoot as if you were a member of the team. They shoot both 22 and center fire pistols. You can shoot either or both courses of fire. For more information, please contact Denny Nill at 412-531-5890 or Bill Kramer at 412-835-5453.
